MEET THE RECRUITER 2.0: KANO

As part of our commitment to drive innovation that builds and develops our community while maintaining and attracting a talented diversified workforce, Orange Group concluded the second edition of the ‘Meet the Recruiter’ Event in the Centre of Commerce, Kano State. The event witnessed a massive turnout of individuals, including NYSC Corp members, its facilitators, and prospective applicants, as well as enthusiastic members of our host communities and beyond.

Orange Meet The Recruiter (MTR) or #OrangeMTR is a platform where our recruitment team empowers prospective employees from different parts of the country with the necessary skills to land their dream job. This includes Interview preparation, résumé writing, and cover letter writing. Our recruitment team conceived the idea while searching for ways to add value to the youths in our country and simultaneously attract the best hands in the country to join our ever-expanding talent pool.

The event at Kano, which took place on 14th and 15th September 2021 in two local governments, Fagge and Nasarawa, and witnessed a massive turnout as youths and adults in the host communities graced the novel event. Similar to the premier #OrangeMTR event in Onitsha,  participants were required to register for the event on our online Recruitment portal. Our facilitators directed them to take a test and upload their CVs. This automated process ensured a seamless and organized process on the MTR day. The individuals who were unable to register before the event were directed to do so as they walked into the venue.

The event started with an introductory session where participants learned about Orange Group and every member of our recruitment team. The conversation, which began with a discussion on career development, was handled by our recruitment Manager, Mrs. Vivian Ugo. She enlightened participants on how to deliberately draw up a sustainable career plan which will stand the test of time. She spoke extensively about choosing a career path that is in line with one’s passion and interests while breaking down the stages of career development and career lifecycle.

The second conversation covered Interview preparation and tips. Mrs. Ugo engaged the participants using real-life examples to highlight some pitfalls to avoid in an interview. She also showed participants some general qualities that every recruiter seeks in an interview, differentiating between face-to-face and phone interviews. Among the general tips highlighted includes candidates conducting thorough research on the companies they are applying to, as well as researching available job positions and understanding what values they have to offer for those roles. In addition to this exercise, participants who shared personal experiences were given appropriate feedback to improve on.

The third and final conversation was focused on tips for landing their dream position in Orange Group. Our team engaged participants about the various routes into the company, giving them a detailed breakdown of the multiple boot camps available and the functional roles required. All applicants who had not taken the test at this point were encouraged to do so as day one drew to a close. At the end of this event, participants walked away with Orange goodie bags.

Participants of the #OrangeMTR that successfully completed and passed the online tests were invited to take a secondary test at the event in which some were successful and were immediately invited for an in-person interview and boot camp session after. Like the event at Onitsha, all participants were given a taste of our Refreshing Passion Energy drink.

While some got to walk away with job offers, we ensured that  everyone left the event feeling better about themselves and gearing up to ace their next job application!
